London is a city that never ceases to amaze me: cosmopolitan, eclectic, vibrant… All at the same time. With this culinary guide, I want to share with you the sheer diversity of gourmet eating places that have made the British capital’s gastronomy scene a world leader. It’s an invitation to discover my gastronomical London, to taste the atmosphere of this city through photography that takes you from traditional fish and chip shops to chic restaurants in the heart of the city.’
‘I have fond memories of tasting perfectly cooked fish and chips with crisp golden batter, accompanied by minted mushy peas that only the British know how to make.’
“The great British tradition of fish and chips is thriving in Covent Garden, and it has been since 1871, when a chip shop was first established on this site. The current owners took over 1980s and were taught the original frying methods by two old ladies – former employees who’d had the shop in their family for three generations and were keen to preserve its good reputation. And their legacy lives on: queues for takeaway form daily, but eat in the restaurant you get the benefit of warm service and cosy, casual décor. Choose between rock, sole, halibut, haddock, skate, cod and plaice, slather on the complimentary ketchup and tartar sauce and prepare for the simplest of pleasures: crunching through the light, crispy batter to the moist, flaking fish beneath.”
